This Is What I'm Listening To Now...Kimbra

Anyone who knows me knows that one of my favorite things to do is to discover new, and hopefully awesome, music. I haven't done one of these music blogs in a while, not because there's nothing awesome being release, but more because...I'm just lazy! :) But I have a back log of so many cool artists, that I just have to start sharing them with everyone. To jump start it, I bring you Kimbra. This chick is the SHIT I tell you.

Milla Jovovich's New Single "Electric Sky'

Everyone know I love her, so of course I'm going to blog about the NEW SINGLE by Milla called Electric Sky. Milla had tweeted months ago that she was wanting to get back into music and several weeks ago she tweeted that she was working on a new single.

Well here it is! Electric Sky was released on May 18, 2012. It makes me so happy!!!

You can download the single on Amazon via this link.

So Long Seckman's Selections

Yes that's right...this week (well, I guess as of last week) I say goodbye to my weekly Seckman's Selections new realeases blog. This is not to say that it won't ever return, but for now, it needs to go bye-bye.

For those who love new-releases as much as I do, fear not...the internet is full of website dedicated to what's new and upcoming (Amazon, NPR, retailer ads, dvdsreleasedates.com, etc), you'll just have to do a little research on you're own. If you want my opinion on something that's come out, shoot BCP an email, or post on the group page, and if I (or anyone else) has an opinion, I'll be sure to give it. :)

Keep you're eyes open and your ear to the group 'cause there's a lot of exciting things coming out this year.

Happy spending!

Board Game Spotlight: Runebound

Runebound is one of my top favorite board games. It contains elements of adventure, questing, role play and story telling. It's a great game to play with 3 other friends, but can be played with up to 6 players. This game can be a bit time consuming (on the box it says 2-3 hours...but that is a VERY conservative guess) but it's well worth it! If you trying out this game for the first time, or playing with new people, I would recommend keeping the group small (about 3 players). The game also features solo play, which takes about 2 hours...and then I would add an additional hour per player you add (depending on how familiar each player is with the game).

In my opinion, this game plays out like an epic fantasy novel. You, a lone adventurer, travel throughout the world of Terrinoth fighting monsters, collecting gold, visiting town to shop, heal and hire allies, and duel other players you meet along the way. Each person is creating their own story and their own path towards the adventures ultimate goal (determined by the scenario you are playing), while plot points are revealed that push the game forward and affect all the heroes traveling the land!

Their is initially only 1 major quest that comes with the base game, but new quest adventures can be purchased through Adventure Packs (that use the base game board) or you can purchase big box expansions that come with new heroes, new territory boards (desert, islands/ocean, the artic, etc.) and new adventures!

The upcoming Essential Collection box contains six previously released expansions for Runebound, consisting of Adventure variants, Challenge cards, Items, and Allies,  now available in one convenient and specially priced package!

I highly recommend this game for anyone who loves fantasy! The world of Terrinoth begins here and is used in several other game produced by Fantasy Flight Games. So, if you have a favorite character (and there are a LOT to choose from), you'll see them again in other games like RuneWars, Descent and DungeonQuest! I've inlcuded the description from Fantasy Flights website, which provides a great overview of the game!

Enjoy!!

What do YOU have to say about it?

Hey gang! We as BCP wanted to open up the airwaves to our listeners! We invite you all to e-mail us comments and discussion topics/questions in an audio format (mp3 preferred) and we may play it on the show to spark a debate or perhaps a fist fight! @_@

Comments can be anything from saying that you like/hate the show, to a comment about something you heard on a prior episode. Topics can be...well, anything! Try us! Send us something serious, something funny, something stupid...you never know what we'll pick! LOL

And finally we invite you to record and send us your GEEK GUILTY PLEASURES!!! Did you have a save file right before the sex scene in Mass Effect that you play over and over again, because your Shepherd and Liara just look SOO HOOOT together? Do you listen to Dolly Parton and finger paint when it's raining outside? We want to know what the fuck makes you WEIRD like us!!

For all of these, feel free to drop your name, or not, and keep the comments brief and to the point...no more than 30 seconds if possible.

This is just another way we at BCP are trying to make you all a part of the show with us! We hope to have a voicemail set up in the future...but we don't know how to do that yet...so for now, use your smart phone, laptop or PC mic and send us your clips (audicity is a great FREE recording program). Who knows, maybe you'll be on the next episode of Beaucoup Pop!

our email is www(dot)beaucouppop(at)gmail(dot)com!

Shame (Blu-ray/ DVD)

I love Michael Fassbender, so, of course, I thought this movie was SO GOOD! Very depressing though, not because of one thing in particular, but just because of how unhappy and abused everyone in this movie really is. :-(

Amanda Palmer Ukuleles!

Busy busy week preparing for C2E2, but there are still new releases to mention. So here we have a few of my suggestions for the week of April 10, 2012!

MOVIES

The Iron Lady

Excellent Bio Pic starring the amazing Meryl Streep. While I may have wished for Viola Davis (or Glenn Close) to win this years Academy Award, there's no denying that Meryl give an excellent performance and transforms on screen. I recommend the movie to everyone!

Board Game Spotlight: Dominion

Oh Dominion, how I love thee. Let me count the ways, 1 Province, 3 Duchys, 5 Estates and....damn 8 Curses!

Domion is not technically a board game, it's a card game for 2-4 players (and up to 8 players, if you have both 2 base games). I was introduced to it by my friend Evan about 3 years ago. Since then, I have tried to share this awesome game with anyone who will play it. My friend Nikki is now hooked as well and we've spent many an evening playing cards and drink wine and eating Cheez-its...it's our things.

The brilliant thing about Domion is that the play time is pretty short, usually under an hour, it's quick to set up/clean up and with all the cards available, the replay value is practically limitless. But I get ahead of myself. I should probably tell you WHAT Dominion is!

SECKMANS SELECTIONS

Boy, what a week! Ton of awesome new releases here. I think my Amazon wishlist just increased (if possible) by a page or two. There are some sweet video games coming out, including the higly anticipated Journey by the company who brought us Flower. And there's plenty to listen to in the music word...we go everything from The Ting Tings to some surprising new artists who have stolen my heart. And in movies...well pretty much every good movie from this fall came out...My Week With Marolyn, TinTin, The Three Musketeers, etc. Anyway, here's a look at some of the things that came out this week, March 13, 2012!

VIDEO GAMES

Silent Hill: Downpour

Staying true to the franchise's original roots, this eighth installment of the Silent Hill franchise returns with an all new thought-provoking horror storyline. Players will once again find themselves face to face with their deepest sins and fears in the strange world of Silent Hill. The survival horror experience begins after a prison transport vehicle careens off the road, leaving lone inmate Murphy Pendleton stranded in Silent Hill. Gamers will encounter mind-bending puzzles, as well as horrific creatures and other world terrors using everyday objects from wooden chairs to glass bottles to fend off their enemies. The natural response, fight or flight is left to the player as they unravel a dark, thought-provoking storyline which will appeal to fans of the early, classic Silent Hill series, as well as anyone who enjoys a deep, psychological horror experience. In addition to the main storyline, players will also be presented with variable side quests along the way that can change depending on their play style, revealing unknown evils within the town.

I Think Amalur With You

I really like video games...especially RPGs. If I had my way, I would play every RPG I could get my hands on. I'm a sucker for a game that tells an awesome story. Admittedly, I don't get to play video games as often as I'd like. I miss the days of college, when I could come home from class at 4:00, kill 5 hours of Final Fantasy VIII and still have time for homework. :) Or the wonderful 3 month summer vacations where I once had a fling with Final Fantasy X. But as an adult with a full-time day job, I find that I either don't have time to log the hours needed make progress in an RPG, or the task seems daunting because I have SO MANY just sitting on my game shelf begging to be played.

Because of this, my tastes in games has evolved. I usually stick with the 8-10 hour Action games or FPS like Tomb Raider, Uncharted, BioShock, Heavy Rain, God of War, etc. But recently, I've found myself locking the front door, putting my phone on vibrate and snuggling under a blanket to play the hell out of some RPGs. It started with Final Fantasy XIII (which, despite mixed reviews, revitalized my faith in Square-Enix's ability to make a playable RPG) and has picked up again with Final Fantasy XIII-2. But fear not...this is not an article where I, once again, express my love for the Final Fantasy XIII line. No, I'm here to express my love and admiration for a wonderful not so little game called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning!!

So I hope everyone has ravaged your couches for lost change, hoarded those gift cards and have no plans for your 'thank god March has 3 week so I get an extra paycheck this month' cause this week is a doozy!! I hope you have an emergency savings fund...cause here's some of what coming out the week of March 06, 2012!

SECKMANS SELECTIONS

Post Oscars, I guess it's a good thing Hugo didn't win best picture or best director, otherwise they would have a lot of stickers to put on the cases for this movie. Admittedly I was not a huge fan of this film, but it is this week's biggest release. Visually, if was quite stimulating, but the story just never quite amounted to much, IMO. Also coming out, we have the newest DC animated film, Justice League: Doom, so be sure to check that out. In Video Games, we have the highly anticipated SSX for the next-gen systems. Helicoptor dives, avalanches, pitch black caves...SSX never looked so good! And...AND....THE CRANBERRIES have a new album out!! Best...Week...Ever! So, here you have it, a look at some of the things coming out the week of February 28, 2012.

MOVIES

Hugo (Two-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

[available on Blu-ray, 3D Blu-Ray and DVD]

This is a movie about movies...and the resourceful orphan Hugo Cabret. After his clockmaker father perishes in a museum fire, Hugo goes to live with his Uncle Claude, a drunkard who maintains the clocks at a Paris train station. When Claude disappears, Hugo carries on his work and fends for himself by stealing food from area merchants. In his free time, he attempts to repair an automaton his father rescued from the museum, while trying to evade the station inspector, a World War I veteran with no sympathy for lawbreakers. When Georges, a toymaker, catches Hugo stealing parts for his mechanical man, he recruits him as an assistant to repay his debt. If Georges is guarded, his open-hearted ward, Isabelle, introduces Hugo to a kindly bookseller, who directs them to a motion-picture museum, where they meet film scholar René. In helping unlock the secret of the automaton, they learn about the roots of cinema, starting with the Lumière brothers, and give a forgotten movie pioneer his due, thus illustrating the importance of film preservation, a cause to which the director has dedicated his life.

Board Game Spotlight: Fortune and Glory: The Cliffhanger Game

We are 14 weeks away from the FORGE con here in Lexington. As a huge fan of (hobby) board games, I'm going to do a feature of a few new and notable game and reviews of some of my personal favorites.

This first installment, we'll be looking at the new Flying Frog game, Fortune and Glory: Cliffhanger Game (or FANG!). Now, I have not had the pleasure of playing this game, as I just recently found out it came out. But, I have no doubts that this game will be tons of fun, because I'm a huge fan of the company, Flying Frog, who produced this game. Flying Frog is best know for the games Last Night on Earth: The Zombie Game (a modular survival horror game), A Touch of Evil: The Supernatural Game (a 19th century supernatural adventure board game) and Invasion from Outer Space: The Martain Game (a modular game with fiendish Martians, Big Top Heroes, and SciFi Movie Action), to name a few.
