Board Game Spotlight: Miskatonic School for Girls

www.miskatonicschoolforgirls.com/
The other night, my friend Nikki and I sat down to play a new card game I'd picked up a FORGE con 2012, called Miskatonic School for Girls! What is The Miskatonic School for Girls, you may ask? The Miskatonic School for Girls is a high class private school filled with a wonderful variety of charming children. Unfortunately, the staff of the school is made up by a variety of Cthulhu-ian monsters and cultists - all desperately trying to hide their true selves.
I'd never really heard anything about this game, and kind of picked up on a whim, and to help support indi-game makers. The game was produced by Fun to 11, a company focused on launching fun and inventive products through Kickstarter. The Miskatonic School for Girls was the first game produced by Fun to 11. The game was designed by The Geek Dynasty, led by Luke Peterschmidt - a multi-award winning game designer.

The Miskatonic School for Girls is a deck building game at heart. The rules seemed a bit confusing at first, but after watching a very handy tutorial video online we pick it up easily and turned out to be quite a lot of fun. Players take the roll of one "House" in the school. During turns, players will add new students to their deck, while adding bizarre and mind altering faculty members to the other Houses.

We All Need To Rise

If you are like me, you spent late Thursday night/early Friday morning in the dark with a hundred of like-minded individuals enjoying the end of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.  But, for a very unfortunate few in Aurora, Colorado, that time of excitement and joy was ended by a sociopath who felt the need to share his loneliness and anger with innocent movie-goers just like you and me. I am not going to name him.  You can Google that if you want to.  I don't feel compelled to give his name an ounce of my breath or to commit it to memory.  He will get more than enough of that kind of attention from the contemporary media anyway.

People will ponder all the "whys" and "hows" of what he did enough without me taking the time to care...which I don't.  It is amazing how uncannily close to home a movie like "Se7en" came to articulating the realities that we face from the media when it comes to how people react whenever someone does something like this.  The only thing that matters is that he targeted innocent people like you and me...only removed by time and distance.  He had a choice with what he did that night and ended up taking the right of choice away from at least 70 people who were either killed or injured and affected the lives of countless others who were either in attendance or the friends and families of the people involved.

How this affects us, will be different for everyone.  For some, this will make us angry and want to lash out at the idiot who did this.  For others, it will make us want to "circle the horses" and keep our loved ones closer and be more cautious with where we go and where we let our loved ones go.  For me, I worry about all the peripheral things that will happen.

Rob hard at work!
So, last week we were unable to record due to a power outage at the Beaucoup Pop studio, but fear not, the BCP gang is finally back (from a much needed break) and boy do we have an action packed episode for you guys!!!  Let the summer sounds of the Cicadas put you into the mood as we welcome our Artist of the Month, Rob Duenas, for a quick chat about his glorious artistic talents and his podcast, Sketch Craft!  The crew also does a quick rundown of some highlights from SDCC news, and we get around to answering some fan voicemail....or 'Poppermail' if you will.

Artist of the Month: Rob Duenas

Behold, our new artist of the month for July....Rob Duenas!!!!

Rob is an incredible artist that I discovered through his DeviantArt page  Not only was I blown away with every image that I selected but I was also pleasantly surprised to see that he was a fellow podcaster.  Sketch Craft is a podcast for art, design and process junkies.  If you're an artist or just really dig listening to people talk about their craft, then it's the podcast for you.

Wolverine and the X-men #3

Here's a little random bit of trivia for you. On Episode 46 - Vengeance of the Geeks we interviewed the amazing artist John Tyler Christopher, who made mention of that fact that he not only listed to our podcast, but that he listened to several of our episode while working on a cover for Wolverine and the X-Men. Well, at Derby City Comic Con this past weekend, John show us a print for said cover, Wolverine and the X-men #3! Take a look!

It's really awesome! Thumbs up to you buddy.

Peace,
Matt

July 4th is the release of one my personal favorite statues, the Kotobukiya Marvel Storm Bishoujo Statue!

Storm has always been one of my favorite female Marvel characters (tied only by Rogue) and was SO EXCITED when I found out a Bishoujo statue of her was in the works. She's aways had really cool costumes.

Her white 90's body suit with those giant shoulder pads has alwasy been my favorite!!
