Medieval Cocktail

What do you get when you mix the medieval fantasy of George R. R. Martin with Sean Bean and HBO? A giant, knock you on your ass, cocktail of AWESOMENESS!!

I just discovered today that the master of television, HBO, is airing a new TV series entitled Game of Thrones on April 17, 2011. The show is based on George R. R. Martin's best-selling series A Song of Ice and Fire (the first book, you guessed it, is A Games of Thrones). The television series is expected to follow the multiple storylines of the A Song of Ice and Fire series.

I have never read the novels (but will now!) but I have heard of A Games of Thrones before. Fantasy Flight Games makes a few Board/Card Games called A Games of Thrones, which are based on the world of George R. R. Martin. SO in a way…this show is based off of a board game! ^_^ Sweet!

When I saw the first trailer I almost burst with joy. I’ve been asking for a kick ass medieval for the longest time. Networks like HBO and Showtime do awesome period dramas all the time (Tutors anyone?) but no one has done a good old Castles and Broadswords show. I’m stoked…now if I could only afford HBO. T_T I need a friend with HBO, stat!

Sink or Swim?

Since Aspen Comics founder (and artist) Michael Turner tragically passed away from bone cancer in 2008, the publisher appears to be staying afloat with new issues of Fathom and Soulfire and new titles like Lady Mechanika, Executive Assistant Iris and Charismagic. But what does the future hold? Newsarama.com had an interview with Aspen Comics editor-in-chief Vince Hernandez to discuss the future of the company and he also briefly discusses the buzz around the Fathom movie (and YES Megan Fox is still attached...Gag).

Recording Delayed

Hiya folks!  Just popping by to let you know that our recording will be delayed one more week due to a minor nasal surgery that Justin had to go through.  No one wants to be recorded with gauze shoved up their nose. :)  So alas...you'll have to hold on just a bit longer but in the mean time we'll be posting to the blog and of course on Twitter @beaucouppop.  Here's a little something for now:

The Akira movie has a scriptwriter now!

Steve Kloves has been assigned the task to work on the current script.  Kloves is best known for his screenplays for the Harry Potter films (outside of the 5th) and he also wrote and directed The Fabulous Baker Boys.  This is some decently good news for the film and there have also been reports lately that James Franco may be up for the role of Kaneda...hell of a lot better than Zack Efron.
Overall I'm still left thinking "Meh..." about this anime being made into a live action film.  It was one of the first anime I've ever seen and I wasn't that astounded by it, at least not like everyone else who thinks they know everything about anime.  There are soooooo many other titles out there (10 times better than Akira) that would translate into phenomenal live action movies.  What do I know though...I'm just a faithful consumer.  Fingers crossed for Cameron's Battle Angel Alita, that's a film I'm excited about.

Spandex VS Leather

Every year I look forward to the next big comic inspired superhero movie. 2011 will be bring us titles likes Captian America, Green Lantern, X-Men: First Class and Thor. Thing heat up even more in 2012 with Avengers, the Spider-Man reboot (sorry Toby...but after Spider-Man 3, we're breaking up), and my favorite The Dark Knight Rises.

But in the midst of my Geekgasm I have to step back. Ever since the release of X-Men in 2000 my feeling towards Comic inpired movies have been bittersweet. As a kid who grew up reading comics during the late 80's and early 90's, the thing I loved most about them was how colorful and over the top they were. I loved that all the comic chicks had GIANT 80's hair and everyone wore spandex outfits and revealed just enough to leave NOTHING to the imagination. ^_^

By The Hammer of Thor!!!!

Check out the newest trailer for 'Thor'!!!!

I don't know about you guys but I can't wait for this.

Til next time!
