Movie Theater Etiquette

BEWARE: ranting, raving and colorful language lie ahead...

This week Danny and I attended the movie theater to see Don't Be Afraid of the Dark.  We went on a Monday night, and I was hoping that would be a suitable night for the ass-holes to stay at home...apparently they work on Monday's too.
First before I get into it, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark was....ok.  The writing was not too great but the effects and designs were quite amazing.  I might have, actually I know I WOULD have enjoyed my experience with this film better if it weren't for the family sitting behind us.  So that this will be broken down easier and not seem like a continuous rant, I’ll be forming this into 5 rules…and well, you guys know I love a list. XD

5.) Don’t bring your child to a rated R movie:  I don’t give a flying rat’s-ass if you think your child can handle a rated R film.  Let them watch it at home, don’t bring them to the theatre where there are adults who don’t want to hear them freak out at the tiniest thing.
This family behind us brought their two children who couldn’t have older than 8 and 12.  As soon as I saw them and where they were sitting I gave that all knowing look to Danny.  He said, “Be prepared to get the back of your seat kicked.”  So I waited to see if they were going to and sure enough they started…I moved to a different seat since the theater was relatively empty.

4.) While I’m on it…Teach your child to be respectful of other people’s seats:  “Hey, shit head…I didn’t pay good money to have you knock against my seat with your crocks for two fucking hours.”

3.) Don't be on your cell phone:  This wasn't the case during this particular outing, but it's happened WAY too many times.  Unless you're a doctor on call, or waiting you're for a heart transplant shut the damn thing down.  Don't answer it while still in the theater...get off your lazy ass and take it out in the hallway.  Don't text either, Christ, you're not that important...that Get Glue check in can wait too dip-wad.  If you're that bored by the movie please do us all a favor and LEAVE.

2.) Don’t talk during the movie:  Shut the fuck up, seriously.  Once the trailers for up-coming films are over, strap in, eat your buttered popcorn and shut your pie hole.  The same family, mainly the mother, decided that two hours was really pushing it for her to be quite.  And it wasn’t just hushed tones either, you would have thought she was giving her order in the drive-through at Starbucks.
Once I realized that the talking was continuing past the trailers, for no good reason, I said loudly, “Why are people still talking???”  That didn’t do anything, so I gave the ever popular, “SHHHH!!!!”…that helped for ummmm I don’t know maybe 2 mins!!! >:(  I somehow kept my cool the whole movie while the talking continued on and on….Seriously, WHAT WERE THEY NEEDING TO TALK ABOUT!!!!????  Since I know Danny didn't want to end up paying court charges and going through life with a wife in jail, I didn't create my own horror show right there in the theater.

1.) Be a decent human being and have some respect: That's right you're getting the full-fledged Italian style rant today kiddies and now I'm begging you to show some respect...not just to me, but all the other people who coughed up the dough to see a movie...in peace.  It's not that hard to sit still, be quite, and pay attention to ONE THING for a couple of hours.  If you find yourself having a problem with this then let me introduce you to something called your house...you can have movies delivered to you there, away...far far away from other people that you may disturb.  If you can't accept that then I'm going to have to introduce you to my fist applying immense pressure to your face.

While I’m at it and it the spirit:
*When someone’s merging and you’re in the lane they are merging into…get OVER to the other lane ya dolt!!!
*When a lady is picking up several lunches for her co-workers at McDonalds…she doesn’t want to be hit on while filling the drink orders…PISS OFF!!!!
*Tip your waitress or waiter if they serve well, I don’t care if you don’t think you should have to.  They work hard, get paid shit, and THEY’RE HANDLING YOUR FOOD!!!!  Take it from me; I was a waitress for 4 years and I know very well what happens when you piss off your server…be nice and tip them well or stay at home and eat if you can’t afford the tip

That is all.

Movie Review: Conan The Barbarian

So this weekend I decided to go see Conan The Barbarian. It was a toss up between Conan and Fright Night, but I was pretty sure Tressa was gonna go see her boyfriend Clay Aiken, er...I mean David Tennant...She has SO MANY that it's hard to keep them straight. Although, the more I look at pictures of him, the more I think he looks like Charlie Sheen. ^_^

But this is a review about Conan The Barbarian, not a blog to piss Tressa off...although I'm sure I have. Hahaha! Luv yous!! [Tressa: >_<!]

Kerry's Korner for 8/24/11

Aaaaaaaand here's my little slice of the news, since we didn't have our episode this week. This corner just...isn't as homey as the other one. I need to get a potted plant or something.

~movie poster uploaded for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

This...looks pretty badass. Not gonna lie. I've definitely got my fingers crossed that it's a lot better than the other one.

~Ridley Scott is set to direct a new Blade Runner film
It has not yet been revealed if this is a prequel or a sequel of the original, but it is happening. I wonder if Harrison Ford will return to reprise his role as Richard Deckard... or is he too old? Didn't stop the 4th Indiana Jones film. Hmm... definitely intrigued to hear more details as it all unfolds.

~Bruce Willis is 100% going to be in the new G.I. Joe movie

I mentioned that negotiations were in effect for this to happen on last week's show, and yes boys and girls, it has been finalized. Bruce Willis, the man amongst men, is going to play Joe Colton. It was officially confirmed by The Rock, on his Twitter account.

~New cast member for The Office
This is...bizarre. The Office is getting a new member: Josh Groban. According to Deadline, he is going to play Andy Bernard's brother.
Um...ok... O.o

~THE WOLVERINE

(rawr!)

Hugh Jackman and the cast of Wolverine 2 are heading to Vancouver in November to start filming, kiddies! I'm sure set photos will be all over the place soon. Still no release date set for the film yet. Yeah...alright.

~Uh oh, Apple
The board of directors over at Apple announced today that Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of the company. This is what was said in his resignation letter:
"I have always said that if there ever came a day where I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director, and Apple employee."
Steve Jobs has been having quite a few health problems of late, and it looks like it's catching up with him. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in 2004, and in 2009 underwent liver transplant surgery. Tim Cook, who has been acting CEO while Jobs had to take a medical leave of absence, has been officially named the new CEO - along with Jobs' recommendation for him to stay there.
I'm interested to see if this affects the company at all. We shall see....

Well! That's about all I had sitting over here this week! We'll be back next week with a new episode, and a special surprise. :)

Summer Wars Review

I know this title has been out for a good minute but I don’t know too many people who’ve seen it, so...Danny and I had our 10 dollar off coupon from Best Buy and it was about to expire...”What should we buy...WHAT SHOULD WE BUY???!!!

As we searched through all the blu-rays we came upon a title that we had already looked at and were interested in.  This is what we decided on:

In 2009 the animation studio Madhouse released through Warner Bros studios a Japanese animated film called Summer Wars.  Director Mamoru Hosoda (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) and writer Satoko Okudera (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Kaidan) joined forces once again and conceived the story about a gargantuan social network/virtual reality site (named OZ) that is used by almost everyone and everything in the world.  The story follows a young boy named Kenji Koiso who has a knack for mathematics.  Kenji is a moderator for OZ until Natsuki Shinohara invites him out to the country for her great-grandmother’s 90th birthday.  After receiving a mysterious email one night all hell breaks lose in the land of OZ and Kenji has to find a way to put things back together.
We really purchased this film on a whim...I didn’t know much about the title at all.  I just knew that I wanted to know what the deal is with that slightly displeased looking squirrel on the cover.  With that being said, Summer Wars was quite a surprise.  Not only was the animation beautiful, especially in OZ, but the characters themselves were well rounded.  So often we get these cartoons that pop up where the characters are flat and one sided.  In this film though, you knew who they were, their values, their passions, and their loves in life.
See, the squirrel isn't always mad!

Two of the main reasons why I love anime so much is the depths they are willing to go to for their characters and the classic animation styles.  Although some use a mixture of classic and computer graphics, movies like Summer Wars make it seamless.  Much of the animation and sequences from it made me feel...well...

GAHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I highly HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone with a love of anime or really just films in general.  The writing is amazing and well thought out and it breezed by so quickly that it left me wanting more.  The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of my favorite animated films and after learning that the same writer/director team worked on both of these films...well, lets just say that I’m going to keep a close eye on those two.
