Seckman's Selections - New Releases (04/26/11)

Since we're not posting an episode tomorrow, I thought I would go a head and blog the new releases coming out today April 26, 2011!
Music

Blu-ray/DVD
  • Eden of the East (movie 1): King of Eden (ANIME)
    • This is the first of 3 movies that follow the anime series
    • The director is know for his work on Jin-Roh (excellent BTW) and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, 2nd GIG and Solid State Society, to name a few.

  • K-On! Vol. 1 (ANIME)
    • A 13 episode anime about four Japanese high school girls who join their school's light music club to try to save it from being abolished. The main character, Yui Hirasawa, has not experience playing an instrument or even reading music, but manages to become pretty good guitar player. This is a Seinen (or young man) anime in the vein of Chobits, Gantz and Chost in the Shell...but with MUCH less battling, I would assume. LOL!
    • First volume runs for 66 minutes...so there should be three episodes on this disc.

  • South Park: Complete Fourteenth Season <- Luv South Park, so I'm really excited to watch this one!! ^_^
    • Includes the 200th episode of South Park! Celebrities that the show has lampooned over the years, such as Tom Cruise, all filing a class action suit against the town of South Park for their humiliation.

Books
  • Black Butler Vol. 5 (MANGA)
    • Just a stone's throw from London lies the manor house of the illustrious Phantomhive earldom, its master one Ciel Phantomhive. Earl Phantomhive is a giant in the world of commerce, Queen Victoria's faithful servant . . . and a slip of a twelve-year old boy. Fortunately, his loyal butler, Sebastian, is ever at his side, ready to carry out the young master's wishes. And whether Sebastian is called to save a dinner party gone awry or probe the dark secrets of London's underbelly, there is practically nothing Sebastian cannot do. In fact, one might even say Sebastian is too good to be true . . . or at least, he is too good to be human . . .

  • Highschool of the Dead Vol. 2 (MANGA)
  •
    • A mysterious illness is spreading rapidly through the halls of Fujimi High School. In a matter of hours, the campus is transformed from a place of learning into a hive of nightmares, as the infected students collapse and are reborn as flesh-hungry zombies! Only a handful of students escape the initial outbreak — among them Takashi Komuro and his childhood friend, Rei. He manages to protect Rei from the initial onslaught, but how long can Takashi and the other students hope to survive when the whole school – maybe the whole town — is out for their blood?!

  • Pandora Hearts Vol. 5 (MANGA
    • Oz Vessalius, heir to the Vessalius dukedom, has just turned fifteen. At his coming-of-age ceremony Oz is cast into the prison known as the "Abyss", only to be saved by a "Chain" known as Alice, the Bloodstained Black Rabbit, B-Rabbit for short. The mystery there begins as Oz unravels the mystery behind Alice, the Abyss and the strange organization known as Pandora. The series features heavy references to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass and can be considered fantasy and mystery.

Scream 4 Live Art Event

Last night was another live art evening at our local Movie Tavern.  This time it was for the much anticipated Scream 4...well, much anticipated for Scream fans that is.

ooooo....smokey.

Alas, this is not a review for the latest slasher flick, we'll be doing plenty of that during today's recording.  This is our way of showing you guys what you may have missed for the live art.  Beaucoup Pop's very own Justin Stewart and Tressa Bowling participated again in bringing their talents to the Tavern.  Here's what you missed:
Here's the early products from Justin and Tressa.  The upper most is Justin's vision of the film's Ghostface and the lower is Tressa's.

BEHOLD, the finished pieces!!!!  They may have had a little too much fun slinging the red paint for gory effect, but they were just getting "in the zone" for the evening's viewing of the movie.

Ghostface even made a speacial cameo appearence to have his picture taken!!
Luckily he was SO please that he didn't kill anyone...this time. O_O!

If you missed last night's live art have no fear, there will be more.
 So don't cry about it!!!

Just wait for free comic book day (aka holiday for us nerds) it's going to be packed full of events!!!!  Till next next time!

This Is What I'm Listening To...Porcelain Black

Check out the video for "This Is What Rock ‘N Roll Looks Like," by Detroit singer Alaina Beaton aka Porcelain Black (of Porcelain & The Tramps fame). This bitch is crazy! She's like P!nk if she dressed up as Cruella De Vil for Halloween. LOL!

The single was produced by none other than GRAMMY-winning super producer Red One (Lady Gaga's Just Dance) and features Lil Wayne. ^_^ No album info yet, but the single is available from Amazon (link above) and iTunes.

This is what I'm listening to.

This is What I'm Listening To...Elizabeth & the Catapult

Check out "You and I" by Elizabeth and the Catapult from their album The Other Side of Zero. This song is great but this video...it's so WEIRD! (in a good way) LOL!!

Elizabeth & The Catapult is a Brooklyn-based indi/pop trio. The band consists of Elizabeth Ziman, Dan Molad, and Pete Lalish. They currently have two albums out: Taller Children and The Other Side of Zero. I'm really digging this group. Some of their songs remind me a bit of the band Zero 7 oddly enough...and others, Ingrid Michaelson.

This is what I'm listening to.

New Immortals Posters Revealed

Read about this on Fandango this morning:

Exclusive: 'Immortals' Character Posters Premiere

Below are five brand new character posters for this fall’s mythical fantasy-action drama Immortals. The posters below showcase, in order, Henry Cavill as Theseus, Luke Evans as Zeus, Kellan Lutz as Poseidon, Isabel Lucas as Athena and Daniel Sharman as Aries.

Plot Summary
Years after the Titanomachy, the Titan Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) declares war on humanity. He searches for the Epirus Bow, a legendary weapon created by the war god Ares, which will allow him to free the rest of the Titans from Tartarus and take revenge on the Olympians who brought about their downfall. In accordance with ancient laws, the gods are unable to take a side in the war between Hyperion and humanity. It is left to a peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill), chosen by Zeus (Luke Evans) and accompanied by the priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and a slave (Stephen Dorff), to protect his homeland and save the gods. Produced by 300’s Mark Canton and Zombieland’s Ryan Kavanaugh, Immortals hits the big screen November 11th!
Henry Cavill as Theseus
Freida Pinto as Phaedra
Mickey Rourke as King Hyperion
Kellan Lutz as Poseidon
This movie looks really cool...and it has Henry Cavill in it! But if Sucker Punch and Red Riding Hood have taught me anything...I'm not judging this movie by it's posters.

Artist of The Month: Sean "Cheeks" Galloway

This month's featured artist is Sean "Cheeks" Galloway of Teen Titans Go fame.
Sean is a self-taught artist from Little Rock, AR. After a four year contract with the Navy he enrolled into Sand Diego Community College to make it into the art industry. When his art teachers found out  he liked to draw comic book related illustrations they attempted to steer him away from that path advising him that ‘cartoonists’ don’t make money, only Graphic Designers, and Fine artists do. Intent to follow his own dream of drawing in the comic book industry, he quit college to pursued his art on his own terms.
Obviously this decision worked to his advantage because Sean has many credits in the in comic industry. He’s worked Teen Titans Go, Wildguard:Firepower (oneshot ), Fatboy and Harvey, El Zombo, and Hero @ Large, to name a few.
He also worked as a conceptual artist for the Hellboy Animated films, did character designs for the Transformers Animated cartoon and was the lead character designer/ character supervisor for the Spectacular Spider-Man Animated Series.
Interested in a commission? You can e-mail Sean at seansgcheeks@yahoo.com or reach him through his online gallery: http://cheeks-74.deviantart.com/gallery/
