New Releases for 02/28/12

SECKMANS SELECTIONS

Post Oscars, I guess it's a good thing Hugo didn't win best picture or best director, otherwise they would have a lot of stickers to put on the cases for this movie. Admittedly I was not a huge fan of this film, but it is this week's biggest release. Visually, if was quite stimulating, but the story just never quite amounted to much, IMO. Also coming out, we have the newest DC animated film, Justice League: Doom, so be sure to check that out. In Video Games, we have the highly anticipated SSX for the next-gen systems. Helicoptor dives, avalanches, pitch black caves...SSX never looked so good! And...AND....THE CRANBERRIES have a new album out!! Best...Week...Ever! So, here you have it, a look at some of the things coming out the week of February 28, 2012.

MOVIES

Hugo (Two-disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

This is a movie about movies...and the resourceful orphan Hugo Cabret. After his clockmaker father perishes in a museum fire, Hugo goes to live with his Uncle Claude, a drunkard who maintains the clocks at a Paris train station. When Claude disappears, Hugo carries on his work and fends for himself by stealing food from area merchants. In his free time, he attempts to repair an automaton his father rescued from the museum, while trying to evade the station inspector, a World War I veteran with no sympathy for lawbreakers. When Georges, a toymaker, catches Hugo stealing parts for his mechanical man, he recruits him as an assistant to repay his debt. If Georges is guarded, his open-hearted ward, Isabelle, introduces Hugo to a kindly bookseller, who directs them to a motion-picture museum, where they meet film scholar René. In helping unlock the secret of the automaton, they learn about the roots of cinema, starting with the Lumière brothers, and give a forgotten movie pioneer his due, thus illustrating the importance of film preservation, a cause to which the director has dedicated his life.

SSX

SSX is finally out for the Next-Gen consols!!

A modern-day reinvention of one of the most critically acclaimed franchises of the last generation, SSX returns packing adrenaline and reality-defying gameplay into every moment. In this over-the-top snowboarding extravaganza players jump into the boots of your favorite SSX character -- including those featured in previous releases in the franchise -- and race, trick, and survive the world's most iconic mountain ranges. Additional features include: new and returning franchise favorite characters, global events and the ability to race against ghost images representing a friend's time on a run, real-world conditions like avalanches, rockslides and freezing temperatures, and more.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC

Two Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC packs are due for release on February 28th, and will be priced accordingly:

• Alternate costumes: $4 US dollars on PSN, or 240 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live. Serah’s bikini and Noel’s armour costume, pictured below. The armour that Noel is wearing is one that is granted by Etro to warriors that defend time. There is no swimsuit planned for Noel as of right now.

• Sazh episode, "Heads or Tails": $8 US dollars on PSN, or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.  It will follow the story of Sazh and what he got up to in Serendipity. The story DLC will also add two table games in the casino: one is called ‘Chrono Bind’ which is played on a table that looks like the face of a clock, and the second will be detailed in an upcoming Famitsu article. Sazh will play both of these games during the course of his story DLC. How Sazh being in Serendipity adds to the plot has not been told clearly.

The 'Opponent: Lightning & Amodar' pack is currently for the 360 (240pts) and PS3 ($3.00). This DLC allows players fight against Lieutenant Amodar and Lightning in the Coliseum area. When defeated, both characters can then be added to the party to use in battle.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2

Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition

Following the rebirth of Mortal Kombat in 2011 Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition delivers the original critically acclaimed game all previously released downloadable content (DLC) plus digital downloads of the 2011 release of Mortal Kombat. The DLC includes fan-favorite warriors Skarlet Kenshi and Rain as well as the infamous dream stalker Freddy Krueger. The game also offers 15 Klassic Skins and three Klassic Fatalities (Scorpion Sub-Zero and Reptile).

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2

Hyper dimension Neptunia mk2 is a sequel to Hyper dimension Neptunia and contains brand new main characters, as well as returning characters, and the gameplay has been updated so as to remove the random encounter feature. New maps and a brand new world feature as well, and the cut scenes have been upgraded to 3D from the old 2D visual novel style cut scenes.
